Letter: Doctor commends law enforcement for gentle treatment of mental health patients
To the Editor:
I would like to commend the officers from the Granby Police Department and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office for their highly professional approach to dealing with mentally ill people. We have had a number of mentally ill patients in the emergency department at Middle Park Medical Center recently. Some of the patients have needed to be prevented from leaving or restrained for their own safety. Our local law enforcement have not only responded rapidly, but have been respectful and gentle with these difficult patients. I have worked in a lot of different places and have seen mental health patients treated poorly. Thankfully that does not happen here. Our local law enforcement officers are as good as any I have ever seen, and we at the hospital greatly appreciate their help.
