Letter: Gardner not waging war on women

To the Editor:

In response to Felicia Muftic:

I, as a woman, do not believe that Cory Gardner is waging a war on women. First of all he is for getting birth control pills over the counter without a prescription. If you need birth control why does the government have to pay for it? Can’t you purchase it yourself? He is not taking anything away from women; he is giving them a better way of getting it.

When I was in the workforce never was there a differential between men and women’s costs for insurance. I am not sure where you got your facts.

I am glad that Gardner has voted to repeal Obamacare. I would like to purchase my own insurance and not have the government tell me what I need to purchase. There could have been some changes to medical insurance such as purchasing insurance across state lines and taking your insurance with you when you change jobs. Another change would be to insure pre-existing health problems. Now, those changes did not need over 2,000 pages of laws that had to be passed in order to find out what was in it. Not to mention that if you liked your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If your liked your plan, you can keep your plan.

With regard to “limiting women’s ability to control their reproduction schedules, the Hobby Lobby decision that permitted certain corporations to opt out of covering birth control for religious reasons” does not limit women’s ability to control their schedules. Out of 20 birth control drugs, only four are not permitted. I guess when you say that it limits their schedules, is 16 not enough? You should get your facts straight when you comment in the newspaper.

Now let’s talk about abortions. If a women wants to kill their unborn child then by all means she should get one, BUT she should have to pay for it herself. Why do I as a tax-paying citizen have to pay for her abortion? If these women are so set on getting abortions and they realize that they would have to pay for it, I believe that there would be a lot less of these killings. I am behind Cory Gardner 100 percent when he would make it criminal for abortions to be performed after the 20th week, with few exceptions.

I understand that you have your opinion and I have mine, but let’s get the facts out and not just look at what you want to see.
