Letter ignored realities of war in Iraq

To the Editor:

This is in response to the letter in your Oct. 29 paper regarding Iraq by Ehren Miller and his Mom, Cynthia Lynch.

Ehren quotes Fred Barnes and Bill O’Rilley, who are both pundits for Fox news, which is well known as a propaganda arm for conservative extremists.

Ehren tries to paint a rosy picture of present day Iraq. He is correct that American casualties in October 2007 were at the lowest rate for any month for over a year.

However, he fails to mention that 850 American troops have been killed this year.

This number is the highest of any year since the occupation.

Ehren might have included the following numbers for your readers to consider when deciding when enough is enough in Iraq: 30,000-plus American troops dead or injured, 500,000 dead or injured Iraqis, 2,000,000 Iraqis displaced from their homes.

How are these people and their families’ lives, in Ehren’s words, “unimaginably” better?
