Letter: ‘Leaving Planet Earth’ indeed

To the Editor:

The Town of Fraser has certainly left “Planet Earth.”

It appears that a “black hole” of stupidity has formed over Town Hall. The taxpayers of the Town saw new handmade wooden signs be installed at each end of town. Nice work but, “oops,” we forgot to add lighting so you can actually see them at night. Hint: Solar lighting is tasteful, environmentally friendly and relatively cheap to buy. Nope, that wasn’t the plan. Instead, the Town installed tasteless, tacky, reflective green signs to the bottom of what was a nice sign. Does that meet Town code for signage? What does “leaving planet earth” signify anyway? Was it a bar full of tripped-out former town staff that came up with the “catchy” phrase? A new marketing strategy to follow on the heels of the last brilliant marketing scheme (Icebox of the Nation)? Looking at the bright side, the Annexation of Byers Peak Ranch didn’t sneak past the voters (perhaps the black hole is expanding too rapidly). Now residents and business owners of Fraser (blue zone only) get to pay a higher water bill (roughly $400 per year increase). The alternative was a deal with the “Devil,” in which the Town receives a free water supply reservoir and millions in tax revenue. Dodged a bullet there!
