The loss of revenue should be divided among library branches

When my husband and I moved to Hot Sulphur Springs nine years ago one of our first actions was to apply for a library card. We were very happy to have a library in the town. Since then we have been steady patrons and supporters of our town branch. For the past few years it has been a roller-coaster ride for our library with days being changed, hours being cut, children’s programs slashed and even talk of closing the HSS library completely. And now, once again, it stands in peril of being shut completely. The library district has budgeted lower revenues because of the anticipated closing of the Henderson Mill. If so, we believe that the anticipated loss should be divided among all the branches, not just Hot Sulphur. Our town library seems to always bear the brunt of any loss even though most of the people who use this library are full time residents of this county. Our branch does not have any huge debts and it seems that it is not a huge burden on the budget. Close the Hot Sulphur Library now and it will NEVER reopen. Perhaps it’s time to ask the citizens of Grand County for additional funds. The last proposal was voted down but a proposal this time asking for a smaller additional mill levy might have a chance to pass. For now, if a budget cut is necessary, have all the library branches and administration office share in the cost cutting.
