Letter of thanks: Candidate appreciates those who voted

To the Editor:

A big THANK YOU to all who voted for me in the Granby Town Board Trustee election that took place on Tuesday, April 1.

I truly did enjoy meeting many new people, and connected with some in ways that simply would not have been possible had I not taken the time to try to meet them in the course of this campaign.

When I talked to so many citizens and business owners in Granby I was encouraged by the direction that they seemed to want things to go in the future for our wonderful town. They seemed to wish for a more proactive posture to bring the prosperity to Granby that we’re seeing come back to other Colorado mountain towns.

You know, I was told that very few eligible people would actually vote, and that it would come down to a handful of votes either way. Though I enthusiastically engaged as many as I could with postcards to every eligible voter, a website to share my views and many personal interactions, encouraging ALL to vote no matter WHO they voted for, this proved to be true.

It was a VERY small turnout for an election that determines so many policies and actions that directly effect the residents of our wonderful town. The difference between winning and losing for the three available seats was excruciatingly small. Unfortunately, I was not among them.

As it turns out, many of the ideas that I shared with those I spoke with, particularly the business owners, are almost better addressed, and acted upon, by a private citizen. You can be sure that I’ll pursue them in any case.

I wish all of my neighbors well, and luck to the Granby Town Board.

Paul Robertson
