Letter: Proposed Music Festival

Proposed Music Festival

To the Editor:

I recently received notice of a County Commissioners hearing for a special use permit for the Touch the Sun Music Festival, to be held June 24-26 at the Colorado Adventure Park. In talking to many friends and neighbors, I realized most area residents are unaware of this proposal.

The proposed festival is a major event with three days of country music at the Adventure Park Tubing Hill and adjacent onsite RV and tent camping. I believe there are significant issues surrounding this large event, including traffic, noise, security, safety and others. This is a busy summer weekend, including the long-standing Blues From the Top festival in Hideaway Park, The event’s anticipated crowds will impact tourists and residents throughout the valley, which as we all know, is served by only one main road.

The event producers hope to make this a “signature” event for years to come, so it is important that the community be involved in this decision. The hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the County Administration building in Hot Sulphur Springs.
