Letter: Thank you for keeping our libraries open

We would like to thank the citizens of Grand County for their extraordinary support of the five library branches that make up the Grand County Library District. On November 11, when the GCLD Board presented the 2017 budget, we heard that there would be “no branch closures” in 2017, a significant turn-around from some very different proposals last spring. This was the result of a county-wide effort that included Letters to the Editors of three newspapers, letters and phone calls directly to the library district, concerned citizens attending and speaking up at GCLD Board meetings, a hearing at the Board of County Commissioners, a petition in support of keeping all library branches open and lastly support for the passing of the library district mill levy to pay off a burdensome debt. Thank you as well to the GCLD Board of Trustees for listening to your constituents and making it possible for all five branches to stay open.
