Letter: Think ahead and Vote NO
October 29, 2015
To the Editor:
The 2 percent tax increase for Fraser and Winter Park transportation seems to be quite vague.
Part of the tax increase pays for a … committee? Now Fraser is talking about spending $100,000 on consultants. What exactly are the "expanded routes" and better buses?
Feels like a "we have to pass this before we can see what's in it" ballot measure.
Besides, if this passes it will become more difficult to tap opportunities for enhanced transportation in the valley, and county-wide. Why not work together as a county for a plan that brings more state/federal funding and less tax increase?
There are ongoing talks with Amtrak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado Department of Transportation, and other towns in Grand County. We, and our guests, need a comprehensive plan that spreads out the cost and provides better service.
A future with fewer cars, more pedestrian peace, and easier access to our wide open spaces should be on the table. Let's demand a bigger vision and smaller tax increase. Think ahead and vote NO.
