Letter to the editor: Pleased to hear Uinta Basin Railway project’s permit is withdrawn
So pleased am I, as many are, that the Uinta Basin Railway has had its permit pulled by the U.S. Forest Service. We’ve all heard about the toxic railway crashes that have occurred. It is a travesty to plan on shipping all that waxy crude all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. And then would the product gasoline be shipped all the way back to Utah and points further west?
I have heard no reason why the Utah coalition applying for this rail line could not simply apply to build their own refinery. Crude can be trucked, so truck it to a suitable place for a new refinery if the ones already in the Salt Lake area can’t handle increased production. Then process and ship it around the West, while the Gulf refineries can provide to the East and Midwest.
