To the Editor:

My family has owned a home in Grand Lake for almost 20 years. For years we purchased ski passes to Winter Park and accessed the resort using The Lift, which sometimes ran all of the way from Grand Lake, but was still very convenient when they reduced service and we could catch the shuttle in Granby.

A couple of years ago, the service from Granby was discontinued. Much to our disappointment, it became easier to access the Summit County resorts via transportation options from Denver than it was for us to access Winter Park from Grand Lake. We purchased the Epic pass instead and used our home in Grand Lake less frequently.

Before purchasing our passes for this year, I contacted Winter Park Resort and the folks at The Lift to see if there was any chance the Granby line would be reinstated and we could again return to our beloved stomping grounds. Sadly, I was informed that the ski area requested financial support for the line from the towns of Granby and Grand Lake to provide the service for residents and visitors, and was denied.

Can’t the towns work with the resort to provide this much needed and appreciated service? How about off-setting the costs with a user pay system? Let’s think outside of the box and problem solve so that Grand County residents don’t end up skiing Summit County – public transportation benefits everyone.
