Local wrestlers off to fast start at state meet

Four of the five local qualifiers for the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament have advanced to today’s quarterfinals at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Middle Park’s Adam Visconti (103 pounds), Brandon Strang (112) and Brian Macchione (189) all defeated their opponents in the opening round on Thursday by falls.

West Grand’s Chase Hill (160) also advanced by fall. Hill’s teammate Lloyd Coleman (152) was the only local wrestler not to win in the opening round. Coleman will look to keep his tournament life alive in the consolation bracket.

The quarterfinal rounds get started at 10 a.m. followed by the first consolation round.
