Longmont officer arrested in alleged drug case

LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) – A Longmont police officer who was arrested over accusations that he gave prescription drugs to an informant is free on a $50,000 bond.

Jack Kimmett was arrested Thursday on suspicion of felony drug distribution and misdemeanor official misconduct and theft.

Investigators say they received a tip that Kimmett was giving his wife’s prescription Vicodin to a woman who was a Longmont police detective’s confidential informant. An arrest warrant affidavit says Kimmett was arrested after the woman set up a meeting with Kimmett and accepted drugs from him while narcotics officers watched.

A woman who answered the phone at Kimmett’s home Friday said he wasn’t available to comment. He did not yet have an attorney on record.
