Low-Income Energy Assistance available

LEAP, the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program, will take applications through April 30. LEAP assists low-income households with paying winter heating bills. Income criteria and other eligibility factors apply. The program is designed to pay the highest benefit to households with the highest heating costs and lowest income.

Households may qualify for LEAP assistance if anyone within the home is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; heating costs are paid directly to an energy provider or is included in the rent; and gross monthly household income is within the income guidelines. The maximum gross monthly household income limit based on number of eligible household members is:

Household Size Monthly Income Allowance

1 $1,670

2 $2,246

3 $2,823

4 $3,400

5 $3,976

6 $4,553

7 $5,129

8 $5,706

Each qualified household may receive only one LEAP benefit for the entire winter season. For more details or to obtain an application, contact the State of Colorado LEAP Information Line at 866-HEAT-HELP (866-432-8435). Or contact Grand County Social Services at 970-725-3331.
