Man dies in bicycle-vehicle crash

PARSHALL – A bicyclist from Silverthorne died on Saturday in a crash involving a motorist on Grand County Road 3 about 18 miles south of Parshall.

Joel Bramble, 55, of Silverthorne, was headed northbound on the county road when he crashed into an Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Becky Smiley, 42, of Granby.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the Colorado State Patrol.



The Patrol has ruled out alcohol and excessive speed as factors leading up to the accident, according to statements released on Saturday.

The Colorado State Patrol, Grand County EMS, Flight for Life and Grand County Coroner personnel responded to the scene. EMS personnel attended to the rider; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Smile was not injured, according to the state patrol.



A bicycle helmet was found on scene and it was determined the rider was wearing it at the time of the accident.

The county road was shut down to one lane during the investigation, but is now open.
