Man dies in motorcycle accident near State Bridge

A fatal motorcycle accident occurred ion Sunday, Aug. 2, on Highway 134 at milepost 13 approximately two miles from State Bridge going toward Wolcott.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a 1997 Honda motorcycle failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and drove off the right side of the road. The motorcycle rolled multiple times during the crash, ejecting both the driver and the passenger.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 72 year-old male from Illinois, sustained fatal injuries during the crash. The passenger, a 72 year-old female from Illinois, suffered serious injuries.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Officials from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) are not releasing the names of the two riders at this time. The female passenger was air lifted from the scene to Vail Valley Medical Center.

CSP is handling the investigation. The cause of the crash is still being determined.
