Man gets 60 years for 3 deaths in Aurora ice cream shop
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – An illegal immigrant has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for a crash that killed three people, including a boy inside an ice cream shop.
Twenty-six-year-old Francis Hernandez of Guatemala was sentenced Monday to the maximum sentence of 48 years for the death of 3-year-old Marten Kudlis and six years each for the deaths of Deborah Serecky and Patricia Guntharp. The sentences will be served consecutively.
A jury convicted Hernandez of vehicular homicide and other charges in February.
Prosecutors said Hernandez was driving an SUV at twice the speed limit when it crashed into a pickup truck, which in turn crashed into an ice cream store in the east-Denver suburb of Aurora in September 2008.
