Man missing after being swept away in Colorado River near Glenwood Springs
NO NAME, Colo. (AP) – Rescue workers are searching for a man swept away in the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon.
The Garfield County sheriff’s office says the man was attempting to cross the river with two other people in an old cable basket on Wednesday afternoon when he fell in. The two other people were able to return to shore in the basket, which operates via a pulley system just above the water’s surface.
Sheriff’s spokesman Phil Strouse says the weighted-down basket touched down into the fast-moving river, tipping the basket and knocking the man out. Searchers looked for the man, who is in his early 20s, into Wednesday evening and returned to the river Thursday morning.
