Voters in Hot Sulphur Springs will consider two ballot issues and four advisory questions regarding retail marijuana during the midterm election.

Currently, the town of Hot Sulphur Springs does not allow retail marijuana stores, marijuana grow facilities, marijuana product manufacturing facilities or marijuana testing facilities.

Those bans have been in place since March 21, 2013.

Ballot Issue 2A and Ballot Issue 2B, along with Advisory Questions 2C through 2F, appear only on ballots of residents of Hot Sulphur Springs.

The two ballot issues do not ask residents to approve or deny recreational retail marijuana or marijuana grow facilities. Rather the ballot issues ask residents if a new sales tax and excise tax should be imposed for recreational retail marijuana and grow facilities in the event the Hot Sulphur Springs Board of Trustees approves such facilities.

The four advisory questions all relate to marijuana and ask residents if they approve of the current town bans.

Advisory Question 2C asks if voters support Hot Sulphur Springs’ current ban on retail marijuana stores. Advisory Question 2D asks if voters support the current ban on marijuana cultivation facilities in Hot Sulphur Springs.

Question 2E asks if voters support the current ban on marijuana product manufacturing facilities and Question 2F asks if they support the ban on marijuana testing facilities.

Town Clerk Sandy White explained the Hot Sulphur Springs Board of Trustees will use the results from Advisory Questions 2C through 2F to inform their decision on whether to continue the current ban on marijuana facilities in the town.

Ballot Issues 2A and 2B apply only if the Board removes the existing bans.
