Mary Jane Territory closes ending Grand County 2017/2018 ski season
Grand County’s 2017/2018 ski season draws to a close today as Winter Park Resort’s Mary Jane Territory welcomed skiers and snowboarders for the final time before the start of summer.
It was a good final weekend to get out on the slopes as powder heads from throughout Middle Park and the Front Range took advantage of a major late spring snowstorm that deposited over 18 inches at the resort last week. Ski Patrollers at the resort woke up Thursday morning after a massive snow dump dropped more than a foot of snow in the area, completely burying the resort’s snow stake. The stake, which is located in the Mary Jane Territory, gauges snowfall up to 18 inches.
This ski season marked the third consecutive year Winter Park Resort has kept the Jane open later than initially expected. The resort base area closed for the season on April 22. Mary Jane’s early May closure means Winter Park is once again among the last resorts in Colorado to halt operations.
Loveland halted operations today as well leaving only Arapahoe Basin, typically the last resort in the state to close, still accepting guests; which it is set to do through June 3.
