Meeker outfitter, guide indicted on game-baiting charges

DENVER (AP) – A longtime Colorado hunting outfitter and a hunting guide indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver are accused of putting out hundreds of pounds of salt to lure deer and elk for their clients.State and federal authorities say 69-year-old Dennis Eugene Rodebaugh of Meeker and 54-year-old Brian Douglas Kunz of Augusta, Wis., were indicted on charges of conspiracy and violating the Lacey Act, which targets illegal trafficking in wildlife and plants.Authorities say Rodebaugh has run D&S Guide and Outfitter since 1988, offering deer and elk hunts in western Colorado’s White River National Forest. They say Kunz has worked seasonally as a guide for Rodebaugh since 1997.Rodebaugh didn’t return a phone call Thursday to the Associated Press.
