VAIL (AP) – Search crews have found two Michigan men safe after they got lost on Colorado’s 14,005-foot Mount of the Holy Cross.
Eagle County sheriff’s officials say a Colorado National Guard helicopter spotted the men Wednesday morning as the helicopter was dropping search teams into the area.
The hikers were identified as Andy Westergard and Bill Hird, both in their mid-40s. Their hometowns haven’t been released. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shannon Cordingly says they weren’t hurt but were hungry, thirsty and tired.
The men were reported missing after they failed to return to their camp Monday.
Sheriff’s officials say the hikers hadn’t taken mobile phones with them.
Mount of the Holy Cross is about 75 miles west of Denver.
The helicopter was from the Guard’s High Altitude Aviation Training Center.
