Middle Park High sends off Nordic, alpine athletes to state ski championships (with video)

Middle Park High School’s ski athletes experienced a spirited send-off Wednesday afternoon as the high school student body cheered on student competitors who are preparing for state championship ski action this week and weekend.

Wednesday’s pep assembly, held at in the auditorium at Middle Park High, served as the official school send-off for the school’s Nordic and alpine ski teams who left on a school bus for Ski Cooper minutes after the assembly was completed. Both the high school alpine skiing and Nordic skiing state championships will be held at Ski Cooper, northwest of Leadville.

Skiing action kicked off Thursday with Middle Park’s alpine racers taking to the slopes of the ski resort. The alpine state championships will continue through Friday. The Nordic state championships will be held Friday at the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, at the base of Ski Cooper.

The Panther alpine ski team has five students competing in state this year while the Nordic team will be fielding a set of 15 racers.
