Middle Park High wrestling results

Last week was a busy one for the Middle Park Wrestlers. Thursday night they traveled to Walden to face West Grand High School, North Park High School and Hanna Elk Mountain High School from Wyoming.

The Panther wrestlers won 11 of the 15 matches they were involved in. The highlight of the night came in the 112 pound match between Alex Telck from North Park and Middle Park’s Conor Peters. The exciting back and forth match ended when Peters put Telck on his back at the 4:42 mark to seal the deal with a fall.

Friday night the Panthers were in action against Florence High School and Buena Vista High School, in Buena Vista. Brandon Strang, and Brian Macchione each won by fall, and Nathan Birdseye won by tech fall 16-1.



Conor Peters, Mitch Steffen (140 pounds), Cody Garrett (160 pounds) and Greg Griffon (171 pounds) all lost by fall to the Huskies.

Against Buena Vista Brandon Strang and Cody Garrett pinned their opponents, Nathan Birdseye won 17-0, Brian Macchione and Mitch Steffen won by forfeit. Conor Peters, and Greg Griffon both lost by fall.



Saturday saw the Middle Park Grapplers in Leadville at the annual Jim McCall Invitational Tournament. Filling only six of the 14 weights the Panthers were able to finish 9th in a field of 18 teams. Brian Macchione won his first tournament of the season in the 189 pound weight class, pinning all three of his opponents on the day. Brandon Strang (103 pounds) continues to wrestle well and reached the title match for the fourth time this season, finishing second. Nathan Birdseye (152 pounds) went 4-1 on the day to take third place. Cody Garrett and Mitch Steffen also won matches at the tournament but came up short of placing.
