Middle Park runners push until the finish

Middle Park competed in its last race of the year with the Colorado 3A Region 1 Cross Country Saturday in Durango.

For the girls, senior Katie Trail led the team, as she ran a focused race and took 16th overall at 21 minutes, 1 second.

“She had her game on,” Panthers Coach Beth Merrick said.

Additionally, Middle Park freshman Sierra Manyak continued to show great improvement this year, and she came in as the team’s second fastest runner on Saturday by taking 19th overall at 21:20.

In fact, only two other freshmen beat Manyak in the race, and Merrick was so pleased to see the young runner peaking at just the right time.

At the same time, Middle Park’s Camryn Friesen also pushed hard to score a solid 34th place and round out the girls’ team score, which was only 16 points off qualifying for state as a squad.

Also on the girls team, Maddy Trail finished 22nd at 21:33, Leah Cormican 24th at 21:49, and Alaina Mears 44th at 23:15.

For the boys, Middle Park senior team leader Ethan Callarman finished his cross country season with a hard fought top 20 finish to take 18th overall in 18:06. Callarman again led all Panthers.

Also, Middle Park’s Dane Jensen was 40th at 19:22, Jacob Gallagher 44th at 19:41, Calvin Ciccarelli 47th at 19:51, Jonathan Siefken 62nd at 22 minutes and Jonah McKnight 71st at 24:21.
