Middle Park’s Macchione wins state title

DENVER–MIddle Park’s Brian Macchione won the 3A 189-pound championship at the Colorado High School State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Macchione defeated Mario Garcia of Dolores Huerta 5-4 to become Middle Park’s first wrestling state champion since his brother Allen and Ben Cherrington both won state titles in 2001.

Earlier West Grand’s Chase Hill took sixth place at 160 pounds in the 2A tournament, losing 11-4 to Niko Shelton of Crowley County in the fifth place match.
