Middle schoolers host mentoring forum today " Granby

East Grand Middle School’s eighth grade class will host a public forum today about a possible future mentoring program from 3:15 p.m. to 4 :15 p.m. at the school.

Nine Grand County public agencies will give presentations. Eighth grade students will listen to the information, compile it and create a presentation to deliver at Granby, Hot Sulphur and Grand Lake town board meetings in March and April, said teacher Abby Loberg.

Students are focusing this year’s service learning project on bringing back a mentoring program. The independent mentoring program would provide positive role models to children and teens who don’t have one in their lives.

Grand Futures and Social Services share the goal to bring back the program.

Each year Loberg’s students select a service learning project with the hope of making Grand County a better place.

The class has already created posters, cartoons and wrote letters to the editor that were published in Sky-Hi Daily News.
