Mildred A. Recktenwald

Mildred A. Recktenwald, a resident of Grand Lake for over 36 years, passed away from complications due to a fall on Jan. 10, 2010. Mildred was born in Ithaca, N.Y., on Dec. 28, 1923, and was 86 years old. She was married to Joseph Recktenwald on March 29, 1946. Together they had three sons and five daughters. Mildred worked for many years at the Jefferson County School District as well as for Columbine Lake, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family lived in eight states before settling in Colorado at Columbine Lake in 1974. Mildred loved the mountains, her birds and animals. She also enjoyed attending St. Anne Catholic Church in Grand Lake. For many years Mildred and Joe spent the winters in Yuma, Ariz., and Hawaii to escape the long Grand County winters. They moved to Morrison, Colo., in July 2008 to be closer to their children. Mildred will be dearly missed by her husband Joseph, of 64 years, and her children, Carol, Margaret, Joanne, Joe, Mike, Helen, Cindy and Dan, as well as five sons-in-law and three daughters-in-law. Mildred will also be missed by 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Funeral Services are being arranged by Horan & McConaty. Mildred will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.We love you Mom.
