More snow for Colorado mountains, Grand County

DENVER (AP) – Colorado’s mountains are getting more snow before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Much of western Colorado is under a winter storm warning Monday. More than 2 feet of snow is expected in some areas, prompting an avalanche warning for ranges including the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado, the Elk Mountains and the Grand Mesa.

The National Weather Service calls for partly sunny weather on Tuesday in Grand County, with a high near 31, and a 30 percent chance of snow Tuesday night climbing to a 50 percent chance of snow on Wednesday with strong, gusty winds.

Accumulations are expected to be relatively light in the valley areas of Grand County.

Bitter cold also is forecast for Wednesday night with lows close to -10 degrees.

The high temperature Thanksgiving Day is forecast to be about 12 degrees under sunny skies, according to the Weather Service.
