Mountain Parks Electric awards $20K in energy rebates in 2013

GRANBY — In 2013, Mountain Parks Electric through its Green Power Program rebated $20,000 to customers that installed local renewable energy systems. “We are pleased that these rebates benefit the local economy,” said Joe Pandy, Mountain Parks Electric General Manager.

Mountain Parks provides electricity to all of Grand and Jackson Counties and parts of Larimer, Routt and Summit Counties. Any MPE customer installing a new renewable energy system – solar, wind, biomass, etc. – is eligible to apply for the rebate. The maximum rebate available for residential systems is $2,500 and $10,000 for businesses and organizations. A three-person volunteer board (composed of Mountain Parks Electric customers) reviews rebate applications quarterly and awards the funds. The board looks for thoughtful implementation of renewable energy systems as well as a recipient’s willingness to allow publicity of their installation.

The Green Power Program is funded by more than 900 MPE customers, about 6 percent of the total customer base. Contributors voluntarily donate between 50 cents to $100 a month.
