Mountain Parks Electric awards more than $40,000 in local renewable energy rebates in 2015

Sky-Hi News Staff Report

In 2015, Mountain Parks Electric (MPE), through its Green Power Program, rebated $40,500 to its customers who installed local renewable energy systems, including contributions to electric vehicle charging stations in Winter Park and Kremmling.

“It is gratifying to see our rebates benefit the local economy,” said Tom Sifers, Mountain Parks Electric General Manager. “It is just one example of Mountain Parks Electric’s commitment to the communities it serves.”

Any MPE customer installing a new renewable energy system – solar, wind, biomass, etc. – is eligible to apply for the rebate. The maximum rebate available for residential systems is $2,000 and $8,000 for businesses and organizations. A four-person volunteer board (with local connections) reviews rebate applications quarterly and awards the funds. The board looks for thoughtful implementation of renewable energy systems as well as a recipient’s willingness to allow publicity of their installation.

Since 2010, the price of installed watt of PV systems has dropped dramatically from more than $9 a watt to less than $3 a watt (in 2015). MPE continues to monitor this and other renewable energy trends and remains committed to providing reliable, affordable electricity to its members throughout North Central Colorado.
