Middle Park High School senior Damaris “Dee” Acevedo has joined the Sky-Hi News as an intern for the fall semester.

She will work with the Sky-Hi staff for a 1-hour school period, four days per week, assisting with many aspects of newspaper production, from writing copy to designing pages.

Unlike most girls her age, Acevedo said she isn’t interested in being “a doctor, ballerina or teacher. I want to be a journalist.”

“We’re always pleased to work with young people interested in our craft,” said Drew Munro, Sky-Hi editor and general manager. “We look forward to helping Dee advance her journalism knowledge and want other Grand County students to know that our door is open to them as well.”

Acevedo moved to Grand County with her family when she was 9. She lives in Granby where she attends school, works part-time at McDonald’s and “has the occasional fun for which teenagers are famous.”

Her interests include traveling, hanging with friends and watching movies all day long.

Acevedo said she is interested in majoring in business and studying journalism. She currently serves on the yearbook committee at Middle Park High School.
