New smart phone app features Grand County businesses

A smart-phone app is guiding visitors to deals and to-dos in Grand County.

Launched last May, the phone app available on iPhones, iPads and Androids may be the first of its kind as a Grand County marketing tool to help visitors to the area locate restaurants, lodging, activities and attractions within a radius of their exact locations.

The app also has a postcard feature that allows a visitor to email or post a message with a scenic photo of Grand County, such as Kremmling’s cliffs, or Grand Lake, a Granby ranching photo, or a Hot Sulphur Springs historic ski photo. The app also aids users in embarking on tours of areas of the county.

Maps are provided to help guide visitors to destinations, and another section informs users of lodging specials and packages.

A brand-new update is the ability to “Book a Room” through the mobile app.

The Grand County Tourism Board commissioned Signature Advertising of Denver to help design and collect the data for the app, which was built by a specialty company.

A $15,000 matching grant from the Colorado Tourism Office served to help design, develop, promote and pay pertinent fees in the overall manifestation of the new app.

According to Signature Advertising’s President Karen Ruby, in the eight months since the app has gone live, it has been downloaded 1,127 times.

“We update it on a regular basis,” Ruby said, encouraging Grand County business owners and residents to inform app architects if there are any errors, ways of improving the app or missing information.

The intention of the app, she said, is to include every business in Grand County that caters to tourists and visitors.

“People are excited to have this tool for Grand County.”
