Newberry still holds onto lead in Grand County commissioner race; Linke holds comfortable edge

HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS, 11:05 p.m. – With 6,883 votes counted in Grand County and election officials still processing an estimated 500-550 remaining ballots, Democratic incumbent James Newberry is maintaining an edge against challenger Chas McConnell, 3,431 votes to 3,172 votes, in the Grand County commissioner District 1 race.

In the District 2 commissioner race, Republican Merrit Linke is holding a strong lead against Democratic candidate Robb Rankin, 3,894 votes to 2,609 votes.

On ballot questions, it appears Grand County voters approve of legalizing marijuana in the state with 3,798 yes votes to 2,869 no votes.

Amendment 65 is ahead in yes votes with 4,693 to 1,796 no votes.

Amendment S is gaining voter approval as well, with 3,190 in favor to 2,853 opposed.

Pole Creek

For voters in the Pole Creek Meadows of Grand County, who were asked whether the district should increase its debt up to $550,000 with a maximum repayment of $800,000 to pave roads, 77, or 85.56 percent voters are in favor of the measure and 13 voters, or 14.44 percent are opposed, according to preliminary county results. The exact same number of voters approved Referred Measure B, concerning the organization of a public improvement district at Pole Creek Meadows.
