The 14th Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet in Hot Sulphur Springs on Friday, Dec. 19, to consider candidates for a vacancy on the Grand County Court.

Nine candidates have applied for this vacancy. They are John Althoff and Jeffrey Herren, both of Fraser; Nicholas Catanzarite of Winter Park; Jacob Eppler of Denver; Helen Hoopes, Jolene Linke and Morgan Thomas, all of Tabernash; Heather Stein of Hot Sulphur Springs; and L. Louie Walker of Idaho Springs.

The application deadline to apply for the vacancy, which is being created in the wake of Grand County voters not retaining Judge Ben McClelland during the November election, has passed. McClelland will serve until Jan. 13.

Public comment about the qualifications of the applicants is being invited. Comments may be sent to the ex-officio chair, Justice Monica M. Márquez, by e-mail at, or by fax at 720-625-5148. Comments must be received no later than 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, to be considered.
