No jail time for "furry" gatherings mom

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – A Fort Collins mother will avoid jail time for a sexual relationship she had with a teen boy who went with her to “furry” gatherings, or meetings of people who like dressing as animals.
Forty-five-year-old Richael Michels pleaded guilty in September to misdemeanor sexual assault and unlawful sexual conduct. She was sentenced Thursday to spend at least 10 years on sex offender intensive supervised probation.
She must register as a sex offender for life and cannot have contact with anyone younger than 18 except for her two children. She was ordered to spend 120 days on electronic home monitoring and to perform 200 hours of public service.
A judge said bipolar disorder appeared to have affected Michels’ behavior.
