Nonprofit of the Week
December 13, 2013
A child is lost during a family hike at Doe Creek. A skier is buried in an avalanche on Berthoud Pass. Grand County Search and Rescue responds to these types of calls and more — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Its mission: to provide four-season backcountry aid to those in need. The team is comprised entirely of volunteers. These volunteers train in search, high and low angle rope, avalanche, medical, transport, and more, providing the best service possible to residents and visitors of Grand County. As a fully accredited Mountain Rescue Association team, Grand County Search and Rescue takes a staunch "no-charge-for-rescue" stance. It has been proven that when charged for rescue, many people will delay calling for help when they need it.
