Nordic Corner

Diana Lynn Rau
Grand Nordic President

It’s wonderful to see the snow flying. Soon Grand County people will be flying both downhill and cross country. And the friends and visitors will start coming. So it’s time to be working out and getting your body ready for the slopes and trails. And it’s time to get your equipment and your clothes ready.

Grand Nordic is sponsoring THE ANNUAL NORDIC SKI SWAP on Friday, Oct. 29, at Devil’s Thumb Broad Axe Barn. Have used equipment to sell? Bring it starting at 5 p.m. Looking for used equipment or last year’s hot sellers? Another pair of poles or more wax? Newer skis and bindings? Boots that fit better? Jackets or pants that fit? Besides the individual bargains, both YMCA-Snow Mountain Ranch and Devil’s Thumb will have last year’s gear ready for you to take home. Shop from 6-9 p.m. or just bring a dessert and have some tea or coffee and talk to other cross country skiers. Lots of experienced people will be on hand to offer gear and clothing advise or talk trails and techniques. Questions? Call Mike at 970-531-0845.

Sign up for your membership in Grand Nordic – individual $25 and family $35. This year we are having free lessons for everyone at each of the major Nordic areas, but Grand Nordic members get free lessons as well as free trail pass and equipment rental that day. What a deal! Free lessons are Dec. 11 at Devils Thumb with the Tommelfest, Jan. 15 at Grand Lake, and Jan. 30 at Snow Mtn Ranch. Local shops and Nordic centers give discounts ranging from 15-20 percent to club members on merchandise, day and even season passes. Moonlight ski party dates will be announced later on the website. Benefits are shared with Grand Nordic and Boulder Nordic members as well and are outlined on our website, http://www.grandnordic.org . Visit our website to keep abreast of events, races, kids skiing programs, school races, volunteer opportunities and more. Free kids lessons are held each winter at each Nordic areas – watch here for details or visit the website.

Grand Nordic also supports our Middle Park High School and East Grand Middle School XC teams wherever possible. Come get your bell to make noise at the races and find out how to volunteer your time to support our kids and help the races run smoothly.

See you at the Nordic Swap 29 October at Devils Thumb! Free admission and open to the public. All ages welcome!
