Obama shows more character than McCain
June 24, 2008
To the Editor:
This is in response to a recent letter by Glen Trainor about Barrack Obama.
Trainor uses guilt by association to smear Obama. The fact is Obama was raised with integrity by his mother, grandmother and his grandfather, who is a WW II veteran.
After college, Obama demonstrated his character by working as a community organizer in Chicago, helping find jobs for the poorest of our fellow Americans.
John McCain made a name for himself as one of the Keating Five, legislators intervening in regulatory matters on behalf of criminal savings and loan baron Charles Keating. As McCain tells it, this was the turning point in his career that set him on his path as a maverick reformer. But McCain as a reformer is sharply at odds with his record.
McCain intervened with a regulatory body on behalf of a cable company his committee was regulating, after receiving thousands in donations from its CEO.
McCain denied ever speaking to CEO Lowell Bud Paxson about the pending case before the Federal Communications Commission, a lie contradicted by Paxson and McCain himself in a 2002 deposition.
McCain proves once again that he is just another foot soldier in the Republican culture of corruption.
