Obit – Richard William Cantril

Richard William Cantril died Nov. 26, 2009. Born July 5, 1926, in Denver, he was the son of Merle and Mildred (Gerber) Cantril.

Dick graduated from high school in Kremmling in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. On June 12, 1959, he was united in marriage to Alice Stafford in Kremmling. To this union, five children were born: Kathy, Connie, Christine, Rick and Mary.

In 1953, he graduated from Denver University and in 1964 with a master’s degree from the University of Colorado – Boulder. Dick taught at many high schools during his 35-year teaching career. He touched many lives through teaching chemistry, biology and physical science. He coached a variety of sports, but probably his favorite was golf. He loved teaching the fundamentals of golf to people of all ages.

His love of family was tremendous. Every Christmas, his only request was to have his children and grandchildren around. They will miss him greatly. He was married to Alice for 59 years. Together they were a great example of how to live the marriage vows. Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Louise Cantril; and his parents and a step-mother, Annie (Self) Cantril. Survivors include his wife, Alice Cantril of St. James, Minn.; daughters Kathy (Tim) Schoonhoven of Alexandria, Minn., Connie (Dave) Kassing of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mary (Eric) Christensen of St. James; and a son, Rick (Nita) Cantril of Scotts Bluff, Neb.

Services were conducted in early December in Kremmling. Internment was at Kremmling Cemetery.
