Lenny Brooks, 1948-2018

Lenny Brooks, of Salida died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2018. Lenny was born on Oct. 13, 1948 in Denver. He graduated from George Washington High School in 1966 and attended Mesa University and Colorado State University soon after. In 1971 he worked for the Hayden Valley Press as a reporter and photographer. After that he worked for the Steamboat Pilot where he met his wife, Gail, and in 1978 they married. Together they had two children, Dylan and Lincoln. They lived in Steamboat Springs from 1978 to 1993 where they started and ran a photography store, custom photo lab, and gallery called the F Stop. They next moved to Grand Lake where they opened another small business called the Grand Lake Emporium. In 2009 they pulled up stakes again and moved to their three-acre homestead outside Salida where they both made art, Lenny wrote poetry, and ran their roadside gallery. Lenny is survived by his wife, two sons, two grandchildren (with a third on the way), three brothers, two sisters and many nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Lenny and Gail's home near Maysville on May 4, 2019. Anyone that knew and appreciated Lenny's humor and spirit is invited to stop by and share a Lenny story, help plant a tree, and visit with friends and family. Come for a minute, an hour, or all day. Music will be supplied by their very good friends, Lynnea Godfriaux and Brad Pregeant, of Tight Like That, Grand Lake.
