Obituary: Anne Lorraine Waters

Anne Welton Waters passed away in Steamboat Springs at Doak Walker House at Casey’s Pond at age 96. She was born in Winthrop, Mass., the daughter of William Benedict Welton and Anne G. Leahy. She grew up in Winthrop and Province Lake, Maine, attended Par Sem Hall, and graduated with a BS in education from University of Southern Maine. Her first teaching job was a One Room School House in Vermont.

She married Francis X. Waters on Feb. 14, 1943, in Boston, Mass. They were stationed in Pueblo, Colo., during WW II where Frank taught Flexible Aerial Gunnery, Army Air Force. The family moved to the Denver area and in 1962 moved to Parker, Colo., where they raised Arabian horses. Anne was a Virginia State Senior Olympic Swimming Champion.

She is survived by her children Kathleen Kurgan, Lorraine Waters, Rick Waters, David Waters; grandchildren Scott and Shannon Shelton, Mike, Christopher, Ben, Nick, Zack, Sam, Geoff, Mathew and Allen Waters. She was preceded in death by Francis Waters, sons Thomas, John and Patrick Waters.
