Obituary: Burton “Jim” Harms

Burton “Jim” Harms, a Grand county resident for over 60 years, passed away on Aug. 5, 2015, at age 79, due to respiratory failure. He is survived by his son Bill Harms (Luanne Harms), daughter Carol Winten (Dan Winten), and son Gary Harms.

He was preceded in death by his second wife Julia Ann Harms (2002) sons Donald Harms (2009) and Tony Harms (1988). He leaves six grandchildren, three sisters, and close friends.

Born in Illinois in 1936, he moved to Grand County at the age of 14 and attended Middle Park High, graduating in 1954. In his early years, he worked for Ford Garage and plowed Berthoud Pass. The majority of his career was spent working at Mountain Parks Electric, where he retired after 24 years of service.

Jim was a very giving person who loved to make people laugh and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held Aug. 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Mountain Parks Electric.
