Obituary: Charlotte Pavek-Sass

October 15, 1942 – November 14, 2024

Charlotte Pavek Sass, 82, recently passed away in Colorado. Charlotte was the eldest of five children of Charles Hansen Pavek and Veronica Donder Pavek. She was born in New York State and grew up there, in Ashville, NC, in Washington, CT, and on her family’s Vagabond Ranch (later Cascade Mtn. Ranch) in Granby, CO.

Her father was an educator, and her mother was a businesswoman. Charlotte was educated at the Rumsey Hall School in Washington, CT and the Barlow School for Girls in Amenia, NY. After attending the Katie Gibbs Secretarial School, she worked in New York City and Aspen, CO. Her marriage to Henry Childs ended in divorce.

Moving to Colorado, Charlotte met her future husband, Barry Sass, and settled in the small borough of Edgewater, CO. She loved caring for her Victorian era house, built in 1899, and her garden. Charlotte was also a professional marriage and family mediator, and was very active in Colorado’s organic farming initiative, including managing Farmer’s Markets for several years.

Charlotte loved her family, her home, her many dogs (one at a time, please) and Colorado’s mountains, spending as much time as she could “up at the ranch.” Her parents and husband predecease her. Charlotte is survived by her son, Spencer Sass (Amanda Rebel), her granddaughter Shasta, her sister Pearl, her three brothers Jeffrey, Christopher, and David, and several nephews and nieces.

No public services are planned.
