Obituary: John Silk

John Scott Silk, passed away on January 17, 2020 in Granby, Colorado at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer. John was born on August 28, 1954 in Omaha, Nebraska. When he was in his early teens, John’s family moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The entire family enjoyed living in Steamboat, especially John, who hit the slopes every day he could.

After his high school graduation, John joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the North Island Naval Air Station, also known as NAS North Island, in Coronado, California. He was a member of the HS-4 Black Knights helicopter squadron. Upon he honorable discharge, he moved to Grand Junction, Colorado with Cindy Silk (nee: Campbell), who would become his wife. John attended Mesa College Lineman School.

Upon graduation, he was offered employment with Mountain Bel l (now Century Link) in Granby, Colorado. John loved working outdoors, so his lineman position fit him to a T. He and Cindy moved to Granby in 1980 and have been there ever since. John lived life to its fullest every day. He loved to hike, camp, ski, kayak, and go on trips to Moab, Utah.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, his daughter Portia Silk, her husband Matt Monteiro, and their son Aidan Silk, as well as his father Jack and his wife Jerrilee Silk, and his sisters Nancy and her husband Larry Watson and Cindy and her husband Kelly Masten, along with many nieces and nephews, John loved his family very much. We all miss him.
