Marlys Dailey Weimer, 56 years old, a fifth-generation Grand County resident, was called home to be with Jesus on Dec. 17, 2013. She was born in Kremmling, and passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, after an epic and monumental battle with triple negative, stage 4 breast cancer that was waged over two years. During the entire process she was eternally optimistic and was looking forward to a Caribbean cruise with her ex-husband Doug, starting on Dec. 27. The two had enjoyed what she described as the finest trip she had ever taken, a cruise off the western coast of Canada and Alaska in July. Marlys is survived by her brothers Donald, Duane, her niece Elizabeth Dailey, half-brother Tommy Thompson, his daughter Skye and her children, her uncles Dale Thompson and Donald Jake Dailey, aunts Margaret Rhodes, Donella Reid and Jo-Ann Dailey-Parker, numerous cousins including her favorites Jo-Kay, Loris Lynn and Phyllis. Marlys, due to her loving, caring and outgoing love of fellow humans, leaves an entire city of friends scattered across the entire world. Marlys was a friend to the downtrodden, less fortunate and was a lifelong supporter of veterans, soldiers and their widows and orphans. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Buck Dailey, mother Shirley Thompson Dailey, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. One of her first and favorite jobs was that of hawking “buddy poppies” on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Her father and his three brothers were all veterans of WWII. Her brothers were Vietnam and Gulf Storm veterans. Marlys married and divorced her lifelong love, Doug Weimer, who was at her bedside when the angels came to take her home to heaven. They remained close friends.

Memorial services for Marlys are at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Winter Park Christian Church, for a joyous celebration of her incredible life. Lunch will follow. Winter Park Christian Church is located one mile west of Tabernash, entered by county road 515, then take county road 5151 to the church. Memorial gifts to Grand County Pet Pals or Grand County Rural Health Related Services, “Grand Lake Race Taking Steps to Cure All Cancer,” of which Marlys was an avid supporter and participant even before her bout with cancer.
