Obituary: Shirley Jean Mulligan

Shirley Jean Mulligan, 87, passed away Oct. 9, 2015, in Canton, Ill. She was born May 5, 1928, to Guy and Pearl (Rakestraw) Haughawout. She married George “Fred” Mulligan on Nov. 25, 1945. He survives.

Also surviving are six children, Kathy (Doug) Nafziger of Lake Camelot, Ill., Stephen Mulligan of Granby, Shauna Mulligan of Canton, Ill., Patrick (Margaret) Mulligan of Newburyport, Mass., Sean (Bonita) Mulligan of Carmi, Ill., and Erin (Ed) Welcome of Granby; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley worked as a registered nurse for 20 years. She was an accomplished woman, a mother, a caregiver of a special needs child, and an entrepreneur. She and her husband owned several restaurants, a bed and breakfast inn, and a dance studio.
