Obituary: Joan Helene Wagner Little
Joan Helene Wagner Little died peacefully on Dec. 24, 2008, after a six month fight against pancreatic cancer.
Joan was born to Karl and Susanna Wagner of Hershbruck, Germany, on March 29, 1920. She came to the United States in 1926 through Ellis Island and became a United States citizen in Chicago, Ill. in 1931. Joan lived there until she married James Fred Little in 1943. After the war, Joan and Fred lived in Kansas. Joan was the unofficial CEO of Williams and Harvey Village Nursery in Prairie Village, Kan., which she and Fred owned and operated until 1970. They then moved to Grand Lake, where Joan worked at Daven Haven Lodge. The Littles moved to Loveland in 1982 where they have been active members of Faith Church since its beginning. Joan was a yearly participant in Women in the Word. She loved studying the Word and enjoyed being part of a multi-generational group. She was also a volunteer at the Loveland Visitor Center for many years, as well as serving at the Community Kitchen on a regular basis. Her favorite pastime was swimming as often as five times a week for the past 20 years. She was always busy sewing, knitting or playing with her great-grandchildren.
Joan will be greatly missed by Fred, her beloved husband of 65 years; two children, Susie Peterson and husband Larry of Granby and Terry Little and wife Cathy of Fort Collins; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joan was also a faithful friend and will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Joan may be made to Pathways Hospice at 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525. The family is very grateful for the loving care by Hospice, especially by Deb S and Linda P, her nurses extraordinaire. A memorial service will be held to honor Joan’s life on Jan. 10,2009, at 11 a.m. at Faith Church on Wilson Avenue in Loveland.
