Obituary: John Ross – July 21, 1958-February 26, 2010
John Alan Ross, 51, of Grand Lake, Colorado, went home to his savior Friday, February 26, 2010, in Grand Lake.
John was born July 21, 1958, in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of Val Richard Ross and B. Maxine (Lancaster) West. He married Becky O’Dell on April 30, 2009 in Hot Sulphur Springs. He was a former resident of Loveland Colorado and Hartford Wisconsin. In Loveland he attended schools Garfield, Truscott, Bill Reed and graduated from Loveland High School in 1976.
His son Jeremy and daughter Jacey were truly a gift of life given to him from their mother Julie (Birkhofer) Juvan.
He shared a lifelong passion of mountains, hunting and nature with his brothers Bob and Jerry, Cousin Chuck Ross and many special friends.
In the mid 80’s John followed his sister Vicki to Wisconsin where her husband, Ray mentored his passion for snowmobiles and motorcycle mechanics. He stayed in Wisconsin when Ray and Vicki returned to Colorado when he met and married farm girl and fellow horsewoman Jeanie Berndt. After loosing Jeanie in 2001 to cancer he returned to Colorado and came to love and live in Grand County.
Little did he know what working at Highland Motorsports would bring into his life. When a conflict of moving the Yamaha shop to Tabernash came up, he switched from being a motorman to woodman. Owner Gary Hammond just couldn’t get rid of him, so he gave him the opportunity to be manager of the Highland Lumber- Grand Lake Yard.
In fall of 2006 he met Becky Odell; it was love at first sight. Their shared love of horses, riding and the simple things in life brought them together. On April 30, 2009 he convinced her to become his bride and saddle partner for life.
