Obituary: Johnny B. Nelson
Johnny B has been a familiar face all over Grand County and a resident of Grand Lake for over 22 years. A career in the National Park Service brought him to Rocky Mountain National Park where he worked until retirement. For the past several years, he has run his own trucking business. Known to some as “Lefty”, John was a founding member of the “Colorado Rangers”, a local cowboy re-enactment group popular throughout the county at special events and historic occasions. A true cowboy in every sense, Johnny B loved horseback riding, hunting, camping and “womanizin'”. His gravelly voice, twinkling eyes and that way he chuckled at his own inner jokes will truly be missed by all.
Born in Reno, Nev. on June 27, 1947, John is survived by one brother, Cornez Nelson, and one sister, Lucille Nelson. He has two sons, Paul Daniel Nelson (Tara) of Crescent City, Calif., and Timothy John Nelson of Shasta Lake, Calif., and three grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner and Reiley.
Join friends and family in a celebration of Johnny B’s life on Friday, July 10, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Smith’s barn, mile 4 County Rd. 41. Bring stories and songs to share along with musical instruments, favorite photos and a potluck dish to share.
